Duties
- Lead our team of engineers, mechanical designers, and technicians to bring our equipment from concept to production
- Oversee all aspects of engineering, including: scheduling, planning, reporting, drafting, design and product documentation
- Work with management to identify future products, priorities, conceptual design and direction on all engineering projects
- Develop and implement procedures and standards for all engineering outputs
- Manage all production records, drawings, models, assembly instructions, bill of materials and revisions
- Work with sales, marketing, customer support and management for quick and seamless product launches
- Recruit, train, mentor, manage and develop our engineering team
- Co-ordinate testing and certification for applicable codes, standards and governing bodies
- Continuous improvement of our existing equipment, including the development of new accessories
- Test prototypes and making rapid changes to improve features and performance
- Assist our production team with models and drawings for machined parts and fixturing
- Support our legal team with reviewing and writing patents as well as periodic infringement reviews
- Maintain time and product development logs for SRED and other granting programs
- Verify that product designs are manufacturable, user-friendly and serve their intended purpose
- Liaise with mechanical designers and suppliers to help specify and source purchased components
Requirements
- Certificate or degree from a recognized mechanical engineering/technology program or related field.
- Exceptional leadership skills
- 10+ years of mechanical design experience
- 5+ years of engineering management experience in a production environment
- 10+ years of hands-on experience such as machining, fabricating, being a mechanic, or have a genuine love of building things since childhood
- Strong organizational skills
- Expert in SolidWorks PDM, modeling, drawings, assemblies, sheet metal, weldments, rendering, and simulation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate
