ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is a Social Worker role with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service and will be a member of the inter-professional team servicing children and youth in our community and partner agencies (ie. Dilico & Children’s Centre Thunder Bay). The Addiction and Mental Health Counsellor will be responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and evaluating case management services for program clients. In consultation with the team, the Counsellor will provide screening, consultation, case management, discharge planning and follow up services for program clients as required. The role will also include providing information, support and education to referral sources, families and colleagues, within the Thunder Bay Integrated Psychiatry Services.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum is Bachelor level University degree in Social Work or related discipline
  • Current registration with a professional college or professional regulatory body
  • Significant experience with children’s/adolescent’s mental health and/or addictions
  • Experience with interdisciplinary biopsychosocial model of child mental health/psychiatry

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Northern and Indigenous communities
  • Preferred knowledge of the range of theories applicable to children and adolescent’s mental health and addictions field and experience in working with families and youth
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
  • Registered member of Professional College in good standing
  • Ability to work irregular hours
